Olympic Champion Athing Mu Misses Out on US Team for Paris

The only real surprise when the U.S. national track and field team competed at the Olympic Games in Paris on Tuesday was who wasn’t on the list: Ating Mu.

Although the middle-distance runner did not qualify to defend the 800-meter title at the U.S. Olympic Trials, she did not do so… The United States, which she won at the Tokyo Games, was considered for a place in the relay group. Instead, one of the biggest names will be racing on the outskirts of Paris in 2024, which starts after this month.

It is not surprising that Noah Lyles, Sha’carry Richardson, Gabby Thomas and Sidney McLaughlin-Levrone are part of the U.S. national track and field team, consisting of more than 100 athletes. The U.S. national team consists of four current Olympic champions: Ryan Krauser (shot put), McLaughlin-Levrone (400 m hurdles), Katie Moon (pole vault) and Valarie Allman (discus throw).

Quincy Wilson, a 16-year-old high school student from Maryland who finished sixth in the 400 meters at a brilliant pace, and sprinter Christian Coleman are part of the relay group.

MU missed the chance to make the 800 meters team when she got tangled and crashed on the track during the final of the Olympic Trials in the United States two weeks ago.

She finished last in the race. Mu was a key member of the team that won gold medals in the 4×400 meter relay at the Tokyo Olympics.

Lyles will be the man who will run 100 and 200 meters on the run.Last summer, Er won both stages at the Budapest World Championships and helped the United States win the 4×100 championship title. Kenny Bednarek will also take part in both speedway events.

This will be the Olympic debut of Richardson, the current world champion in the 100 meters. He missed the Tokyo Games because of a positive marijuana test result. Richardson will be the sprinter to be overcome in Paris.

Carissa Schweitzer and Grant Fischer took places in the 5000 and 10000 m distances. After the tests, there were some changes: Elle Saint-Pierre decided to focus on the 1500 m distance and overcome the 5000 m distance. The place went to Parker Welby, but the runner from the University of Florida decided that she would focus only on running 10,000 m. This led to Whittney Morgan taking a place in the 5,000 m after finishing fifth in the trials. Morgan recovered quickly from patellar tendon treatment in November.
