Kevin Durant Misses Team USA Practice Kerr Remains Calm

The United States men’s Olympic basketball team played Saturday without Phoenix Suns Star Kevin Durant, who continues to suffer from a calf issue.

The American team is now training in Abu Dhabi before the control matches against Australia (Monday) and Serbia (Wednesday) and is not panicking due to Durant’s absence.

Coach Steve Kerr told reporters Saturday that durant would be doing one-on-one work during practices.

This week, the American team replaced Cavi Leonard with Derrick White due to issue, and White was waiting for such a move. Kerr said there is no similar plan B for Durant.

“I know it will be a few more weeks before we have to make a decision about the team, so we will act day by day,” he said.

“We haven’t even discussed it right now,” Kerr said of the contingency plan for Durant. “Because we are happy that he is doing well. And so day after day.“

The 35-year-old Durant has won three gold medals and is one of the greatest basketball players in the history of the Olympic Games in the United States.

He is the leader among Americans in history in terms of points scored (435), performance per game (19.8), goals scored (146), three-pointers (74) and free throws (69). He also ranks third in rebounds (118) and blocks (16) and fourth in games played (24) and assists (71).

At the last three Olympic games, he leads the standings with an average of earned points per game: 20.7 (2020, Tokyo), 19.5 (2012, London) and 19.4 (2016, Rio de Janeiro).

The Americans, who are competing for their fifth consecutive gold medal, will face Serbia at the Paris Olympics on July 28, then face South Sudan (July 31) and Puerto Rico (August 3).
